Goodbye August

Wow! We have made it to the end of August, it has been a busy month and action packed here in our classroom.  Not only did we have two guest speakers this week, we also have all now taken home our Reading Journals and almost all of us have had a chance to go on the Ipads and check out RazKids. RazKids lets us listen to stories and answer comprehension questions, it even lets us record ourselves and then we can listen back to our own voices telling the story. It is pretty cool!

IPADS
Check us out on the Ipads

Reading Journals
Everyone was very excited to get their very own Reading Journal.  We got to pick three books to take home and we have been learning our first 5 sight words along with 3 letters for phonics.

Guest Speaker

A big thank you to Rebecca Konrad - Renia's Mum who came to share her "friend Story" with us on Thursday morning.  The children were very interested in Rebecca's friend Dede who she met in Africa 18 years ago.  They are still now very good friends and Dede will be visiting Phnom Penh in October.  We may even get to meet her!

Language
At the beginning of the week we like to do a recount of our weekend activities in our writing journals.  We get to draw a picture of what we did and then we all try our best with some help from the teachers to write a sentence about what we drew.

Also this week we have been very busy with our sight words and letter sounds. We practiced writing the first five sight words, and as a group we tried to say a sentence each using one of those words in it.  We also went around the school looking for things that started with the same letter as our three phonics letters S, A and T.  We then drew them and even made some out of play dough!  That was really fun!

Maths
We did a very fun activity where we had to find out who had the longest name in our class.  We all wrote our name and then cut out each letter and glued it onto our poster chart.  Once everyone had their name on the chart we counted the letters in each name.  Dita used her very long name Amarakmudita and was the winner with 12 letters!

We also made maths stories - We made two groups and then joined them together to see how much we had altogether.

 Unit of inquiry

We made some fabulous posters that showed people being really good friends.
We worked together as a group and presented them to the class.

First Assembly

We had a whole Elementary School Assembly this Friday where all the new children to ISPP introduced themselves.  Well done to Anton, Elena, Visal, Wonglee and Champa for being so brave.

And last but certainly not least we helped Carla celebrate her birthday on Tuesday.  A very Happy Birthday to you!

Have a great weekend everyone and see you on Monday.
