That time of the year!

It's that time of the year when things are coming to an end :-( Our class have been so busy this week with assessments and all sorts that we didn't get a chance to take so many photos this week.

Solving Maths problems:

Making our very cool wrist watches:

We also had some students from Ms Rachelle's class spend the day with us today which was great fun. We hope they can come back to hangout with us again!

Buddies as always a highlight - we did Star Wars yoga which was awesome.

Celebrating Earth Day

It was so great to see all the children arrive at school wearing green and showing their support for Earth Day! We started the day by doing a quiz about how the ocean is affected by plastic and pollution. We did a great job and answered all the questions correctly. Next we split into three groups, each group had a question that they had to find the answer to. One group was counting how many trees we have on campus, another group was looking at how many different types of trees we have on campus and the last group were checking to see if there was rubbish lying around and if there was where was it. The groups did a fantastic job and were very thorough with their investigation.

Our class also showed their support for Earth Day by having a meat free lunch and we were treated to a 'flash mob' by the Grade 3 students in the cafeteria!

We ended our day with our favourite thing to do - hanging with our buddies! The Grade fives are learning about body systems and helped the Grade ones to draw and label a gingerbread person with all the major organs. They also let the Grade ones use their models and take our the organs and have a look at where they are in our body and what they look like. It was very interesting!

Earth Day

This morning we had a discussion about doing our part for Earth Day, as a class we have decided.....

Dear Mum and Dad,

Friday, April 22nd is Earth Day! I choose to eat no meat at lunch on Friday to help the Earth stay healthy!

Love,

Your children :-)

*If you are wondering how eating no meat at lunch this Friday will help the Earth, please read the poster below:

Did you know...

The Elementary school are also encouraging all the students to come to school this Friday wearing something green to show their support.

Baby Photos

Calling all baby photos

For our new unit of inquiry we are looking at personal histories. We would like to see each child in the class as a baby and we would like to keep the photos a secret so we can try and guess who it is. It would be great if each student could bring a photo to school or please email me and I can print one out if easier.

It will help the children also see how much they have changed over time and share some of their memories over the years that they have grown.

Thank you in advance for helping your child with this. Looking forward to seeing all those cute baby photos :-)

Happy Khmer New Year

We were very lucky on Wednesday afternoon to learn more about Khmer New year from our lovely teaching assistants - Ms Nhoep, Ms Chark Rya, Ms Maden, Ms Thon and Ms Chantra. We had a great time playing games, dancing, a quiz and trying some traditional food.

First, Ms Nhoep and Ms Thon shared with us some information about Khmer New Year.

We did some traditional dancing and played a very fun game!

and we finished off with a quiz on all the things we had learnt with Ms Chark Rya.

Student-Led-Conferences

Thank you so much for sharing in your child's learning on Friday. All the children were so proud to have their family members here and I was very lucky to be able to see how confident and excited they all were leading you around the activities and the classroom. Thank you :-)

Enjoy the slideshow (there are a lot) of all the fabulous pictures we got of you all sharing in your child/siblings learning.

Guest Speaker and Mystery Reader

On Monday we were delighted to welcome 4 guest speakers from the Deaf and Development Programme. We meet 3 ladies who are hearing impaired and teachers of Khmer sign language and Karen who was on hand to help translate. They took a lesson where they only communicated with us in sign language. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experiences and learned lots of new signs. Toilet seemed to be the one they all remembered the most! :-)

Mystery reader

A very big THANK YOU to Vattay Heng (Angel's Mum) for being very brave and coming in to read to us on Wednesday afternoon. The children thoroughly enjoyed the story and there was a lot of laughing :-)

Vattay read to us - 'You can be my friend' written by Lauren Child. As you all know we are all very big fans of Lauren Child and were delighted to get to listen to one of her books. In this story Lola is having a playdate with her new friend Morten. She has so many fun games planned but Morten is so shy that he doesn't join in any of the games or even talk! Lola doesn't know what to do and after trying everything she can think of to make him break out of his shell she gives up. It is not until they sit together to have afternoon tea that blowing bubbles in her pink milk was the way to break the ice with Morten. We all had fun helping Vattay with the sound effects to go with the story!

Grade 10 Drama

On Thursday afternoon we were very lucky to be invited to watch the Grade 10 students preform a drama that they had been working on for our students. It was brilliant!! Here is what the class had to share:

Grade 10 Drama Feedback

All my students thoroughly enjoyed it and asked if they could see it again

They said:
  • It was funny
  • It was scary
  • It was very creative
  • The setting and plot was something they really enjoyed and the characters were something they were familiar with.
  • The party was a great way to finish
  • The wands were a great way to join in the show.
  • It was awesome
  • They really liked the way the characters spoke to them and interacted with them.

Hope you all enjoyed your time at the Student-Led-Conferences!

There are lots of photos to share :-)
