Birthdays, Buddies and Mystery Reader

This week we have helped two of our classmates celebrate their seventh birthdays. On Monday we helped Floyd enjoy his day, a very happy birthday to you. I know you had a lot of fun at your party on Sunday. Thanks for sharing the yummy custard egg cakes.

On Friday we helped Eito celebrate his birthday. A very happy birthday to you and I hope you had a great day. Even better when school has a half day! Thanks so much for the delicious cake :-)

Mystery Reader

A very big THANK YOU to Erin Fellows (Anna's Mum) for coming in a second time to read to us! We are so grateful to you for giving up your time and for taking on the task of reading to us just after Sports Day! It was perfect timing for us all to relax and cool down from all of our exercise :-)

Erin read "Marzipan" written by Virginia Arpadi. It is a lovely story about a Siamese Cat called Marzipan who comes from a line of royalty. He had a very happy and safe life, but it was very boring and he was forever looking for some kind of excitement and adventure. The story told

Our class were so excited to show their Grade 5 buddies their 'Oceans' exhibition.

We made it! We have completed our first semester of Grade One. I am so proud of everything the children have accomplished and I know there is lots more to come in Semester Two!

I would like to wish you all a very happy and relaxing holiday and looking forward to seeing you in the New Year. School starts back on Monday, January 11.

3-Way-Conferences

A huge THANK YOU to all the parents, siblings and relatives who came to the conferences today. It was so nice to speak with you all and to see your child sharing their learning with you. A very proud teacher moment :-)

Photos of today thanks to Ms Nhoep :-)

We practised with our classmates before sharing our process journal with you all today. Here are some pictures of yesterdays practise. All the children did such a great job and were so knowledgeable about their issue.

Everyone helped to set up the piazza and worked out where they would display their work. It took a lot of moving and redecorating but we think it looks fantastic!

Here you all are learning from your children!

Also a huge THANK YOU to everyone for doing "2 stars and a wish, on a fish" for your reflection on the expo. We were over whelmed by your response.

Research, research, research.....

Wow we have had such a busy week getting our ocean projects ready for the exhibition. The children have done such an amazing job with these and their supporting art piece. I am very proud of all their hard work and ability to research and share the information they have learned. I know they are all very excited to show you around the exhibition on Tuesday during the three-way conferences.

I don't want to spoil it for you so here are just a few pictures of them hard at work :-)

In Maths we have been learning about fractions: whole, half, quarter and sharing items equally. We have had gummy bears to help us share with our friends, shapes to cut in halves and quarters and learning which piece of pizza you want for yourself!

We also looked at capacity and had to figure out which cup, jug or glass was the fullest, emptiest and closest to half full. The children enjoyed recognising, discussing and colouring the correct quantities. We then worked as a team and completed a puzzle....sadly our world map was missing a piece but the worst part was that it was the piece that had New Zealand on it :-(

Some of the students made a short movie on the app 'Explain Everything'. Please take a look on your child's page to see them skip counting in twos, fives and tens. We also did some problem solving and sharing equally.

*Please note that under your child's individual page, Art and Music have added some short videos.

We helped Dita celebrate her seventh birthday on Thursday.  A very happy birthday to you Dita. I hope you had a great day and enjoy your party this weekend at Monkey Business.  Thanks for the awesome Minion cupcakes, they were delicious!

Have a great weekend everyone!

What's been happening....

On Monday we helped our friend Anton celebrate his seventh birthday. A very happy birthday to you Anton. I know you had a very fun party last Sunday and enjoyed sharing your dinosaur adventures with your family and friends. Thanks for the delicious cake pops!

Three-way conferences are coming, Tuesday the 15th December. Your child will have brought home a notice to inform you of the time you have been scheduled to come and see me. Please let me know as soon as you can if you are not able to make the time. The children will be sharing with you some of the things they are very proud of. Four pieces from their portfolio, three things that they feel they have done really well so far this year and one goal. There is also a teacher set goal and parents you will get to make a goal for your child too.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the conferences.

It's never too late to sign up to read to the class! We have many spots available, so please don't be shy. Come and share a story with 19 very careful listener who LOVE being read too.
