Our Week...

We started the week checking out our twitter account to see what had been happening over the long weekend. We had lots of messages to look at and some questions to answer from our friends in Luxembourg. If you want to check out our twitter account and follow us, please look down the right hand side of our blog and you will see our feed :-)

They wanted to know:

We talked about how we were going to answer these questions. The class did a great job listening to each others suggestions and deciding on how to answer each one. In groups they co-operated and collaborated to create a picture to represent the country/countries they come from and well, the lunchtime part was easy :-)

For the first question we had so many ideas. We like to do so many different things in class we just couldn't decide on just one. So we made a collage of all the things we like.

Number two was easy - Yes, we have break! 9:00 - 9:30am

The children decided that they wanted me to come to the cafeteria and take photos of them eating their lunch. It would take up too much room to tweet all the things we ate. I thought this was a great idea!

We had a bit of a brain storming session about how to answer number 4 - nationalities in our class. We have 10 different nationalities represented in our class and some of the children had connections with more than one nationality. As a whole class we came to the unanimous decision that we would get into our respective nationality groups and design a piece of paper in a way that expressed where we come from. They did an awesome job and I was delighted with the results.

Our class are thoroughly enjoying the world of twitter and tweeting to our friends. We are very curious about our new friends and want to know all about them and their school. We continue to ask them questions....

We have also invited our friends in Luxembourg to join us in collaborating across continents for 'Peace One Day' We will be sharing ideas and creating activities that we can do on September 21st to show our support for such a fantastic event. We can't wait to take action and document our days activities.

Buddies

We got to spend time with our Grade 4 buddies this week. We read stories and had a good chat to them about school and what they did over the long weekend. It was so nice to see the different interactions going on between the different grade levels.

Unit of Inquiry

We are coming to the end of our unit on "Interactions" and as a fun activity I read a book called:

As I read through the story there were a lot of different situations that arose between two very good friends that caused both negative and positive interactions between them. I stopped and talked to the children about how they would feel in each situation that arose and asked them to add an expression of that feeling onto blank heads. It was so interesting to get the different points of view and listen to the ways that the children saw the situations. Some felt happy while others said that they felt frustrated, angry or sad. It was a great way for them to share as a whole class and listen to a great story.

Morning board

Had to take a photo of how multicultural our class is!

Ms Dee helped us talk about Gecko's Choice and look at how we can deal with minor problems and big problems. After watching a short clip Hands to self we got into groups to share what we thought were good choices and how it would help to solve our conflicts.

Maths
We had a great calendar question this week - 'Who can jump the farthest in your class?'

We went outside to find out the answer.

We ended up having a jump off with these 5 - it was a draw :-)

Finally, we helped our friend Somphoas celebrate her seventh birthday. We hope you had a great day and thanks for the delicious cupcakes :-)

Have a great weekend everyone!

International Peace One Day

On Wednesday 21st September, ISPP will be celebrating International Peace One Day. This will be a whole school event with cross-school activities during the day and a whole school assembly in the afternoon.

We will be asking the students to wear blue and white on this day.

For more information on Peace One Day please take a look at the website

Or watch this clip:

Our class have already started to ask the question??

From the Peace One Day website - some simple ideas:

SIMPLE THINGS CAN BUILD PEACE ON 21 SEPTEMBER - PEACE DAY
Our lives are made up of day to day experiences and interactions, so every day we have the chance to make someone else’s life better. To build a more peaceful and sustainable world, we need to build peace in our everyday lives.
No matter how small, everyday acts of kindness can help make peace a reality; whether it is standing up for somebody in trouble, saying sorry, reconnecting with an old friend, or helping someone you see who’s in need of assistance. Of course, random acts of kindness should take place all year round, but we would like to invite you to join with others around the world to give this wonderful idea special focus on Peace Day 21 September.
Wherever you are, at home, school, or work, you can help improve the quality of the lives of the people around you, including your family, colleagues, teachers, classmates or friends.
Sometimes the simplest things can have the most immediate and meaningful impact on the lives of everyone around you. So whatever you enjoy doing, whatever brings you, your friends, family and community together, do it on Peace Day.

School Photos

This week we are having both pour class photos and individual photos taken. These photos will be used for both the ISPP yearbook and you will also have the opportunity to purchase the photos. Information regarding the photos and how to buy them will follow at a later date.

The schedule for the children this week is as follows:

Tuesday 13th September - Grade One KD Class Photograph
Thursday 15th September - Grade One KD Individual Photographs

Our class is really lucky as both our individual and class photo times are early in the morning so hopefully we will still be looking our best :-)

Both Tuesday and Thursday we have PE so if you would like your child to wear something special, please dress them in these clothes for the morning. Then once the photo has been taken, I will give the children time to change into their PE kits on both these days.

A Short but Busy Week

Sadly another Monday was missed for us here at school, even the children were sad....but I think that may have something to do with missing swimming :-) Thank you to all of you for your understanding and your continued support of your child's home learning. I hope you weren't stuck in the traffic for too long!

I have some photos to share with you of students from our class still working hard at home.

Maële wrote a great story using one of the pictures from the blog. Great job!

Magalie played a Maths game:

Liam wrote about his day! Nice work!

We had fun at home, Benjamin read some books and helped me to made these word cards.
 A day full of energy!^_^
Fabulous job Benjamin!

In the event that another unforeseen school emergency closure should happen, please click on the 'Home Learning' tab on the top right of the main class page for simple activities related to our programme that can be done at home. Thank you!

We also had a birthday in our class this week. A very happy seventh birthday to Maële. Thanks for sharing your delicious chocolate rocky road slice!

Have a great long weekend everyone!

Emergency School Closure Plan

Dear Parents,

This post has been created as ISPP has been closed for today and I want to ensure that your child’s learning continues during this time.  The best way to achieve this is by using the internet and the different resources we have been using in the classroom which the children are familiar with.

What are my responsibilities as a teacher?
To make sure we have the best chance to communicate with each other, I will be checking and replying to email enquiries between 9:00am to 11:00 am; and 8:00 - 9:00 pm each day.  Should the school continue to remain closed, I will update the blog each day with learning engagements and activities for your child.  I encourage you to check the blog and your email every day to ensure you are up-to-date on important information and current activities for your child to complete.

What are your responsibilities as parents?
Please make sure that you are familiar with the “student and parent handbook” you can click here to access the document.  Make sure you check your emails several times a day to receive updates. It is important that you are prepared to have an adult available to act as a support teacher whilst the school is closed. In addition, set aside 2-3 hours a day for your child to engage in learning activities.  This will require internet access.

What are the responsibilities of the student?
Students are required to complete their work to the best of their ability and to ask adults for help and guidance when required.

The Grade 1 teacher emails and blog addresses are as follows:

mskellysclassispp.blogspot.com

mrscoreyclassispp.blogspot.com

Jon Banules (EAL Support) jonbanules@ispp.edu.kh
Below are some engaging activities for your child to complete in reading, writing, and maths for each day.

We encourage you to take photos of your child completing these tasks and email them to us, so we can upload them onto the blog for others to see and so your child can keep in touch with their classmates.

Daily Reading

  • Listen, read and complete one or two books on Raz-kids each day.
  • Choose a book from your home collection.  Ask your child to read the book or ask an adult to read to them.  Discuss the story.  What was the problem and solution in the story?  Who are the characters?  What might happen next? ect.
  • (EAL Students) Read and Listen to 2 Raz-kids books (Levels aa - C)

Daily Writing

  • Keep a daily journal at home. Write about your day. You can choose to write about your whole day, or your favorite moment of the day. Remember to include your recount words like: first, next, then, after, finally, and last.
  • Think about something you know how to do. It could be a game, a recipe, or something you know how to make. Write down the materials you need. Then, write the steps. Don’t forget to include a title! When you are done, email the instructions to your teacher. We will make a ‘How To’ Class book with everyone’s instructions.
  • Use the sounds you are learning this week in a scavenger hunt around your home. How many things can you find that have that sound in the beginning, middle or end of the word? Make a list of all the things you find in your house. You can even take pictures and label the pictures. Send your list to your teacher.
  • Look at these picture prompts. Choose a picture and write a story.

  • (EAL Students) Write lists of favorite: foods, places, toys, games, movies, people, cartoons, etc.

Daily Maths
Below are the areas of maths we have been working on all year. Complete the activities for each day.

  • Now it is time to play, go to the following link to access a fun game

Day 3:
  • The aim of this game is to add 10's to a two digit number in order to sink the submarines. You will also be able to find the instructions of the game at the bottom of the page...

            GOOD LUCK!

A Great August!

We started the week with a load of fun in PE with Mr Ben. The children worked collaboratively to get the parachute to fly up in the air and pop all the 'popcorn'. Their were lots of laughs and excitement from everyone!

We did lots of learning on iPads this week - we made a photo collage on an app called Pic Collage. We will posted the final products next week, but here we are working hard on it. In groups we walked around the school taking photos of people interacting in different ways.

We went to the computer lab and tweeted our new friends in Luxembourg. They sent us a picture of themselves, it was great to see what our friends looked like.

They asked us some questions.

As a class we thought the best way to answer these questions was to get into 4 groups and take a question each. Then we took an iPad to take some photos to help show our friends the answers to these questions.

We tweeted back with this:

We also came up with some things that we wondered about our new friends. We're looking forward to the answers.

To explain the 'cool' thing upstairs...we saw a photo of their classroom and they have an amazing area that we guessed might be a playground but are not sure. We really want to know what it is!!

Mr Matt our IT coach also came to visit us and introduced the class to an awesome app called 'Explain Everything'. He showed us one of the many great things we can do - we now know how to cut out a picture and add it to the Explain Everything app and add text and movement. Ask your child about what they did. They all had an absolute laugh experimenting with this application.

Ms Dee the Learning Support teacher came to our class to talk to us about Gecko's choice. We had a puzzle that we had to put together and then discussed the times that we have had a problem and used one of the choices. It was very interesting for me to be able to listen in on the many conversations that the children were engaged in with each other. I learnt a lot!! Our class are very good at problem solving :-)

Last week we made our very own 'mini me' puppets and we have been expressing ourselves through role plays using Gecko's Choice. We talked a lot about positive and negative interactions and how we can change a negative interaction into a positive interaction using the Gecko's Choice.

I was so impressed by the way all the children worked together to not only design a role play but also be fantastic risk takers and preform them for the class.

Have a great weekend everyone!
