Fun Friday!

Well what a week....with using our imaginations to create a character on Tuesday, celebrating our 100 days of school on Thursday, buddies and birthday celebrations on Friday and still doing all of our reading, writing and maths. I think we all deserve a few days to relax over the weekend :-)

In Maths we have been doing a lot of reviewing of all the things we learnt over the first semester. Adding and subtracting numbers, numbers that are bigger than and smaller than, skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, shapes, sorting out objects and lots more. Here are a few pictures of us busy with our learning.

Buddies

The children all look forward to Friday and spending time with their buddies. This week our buddies helped us with an app called "Book Creator." We will be making books next week that will be based on our imaginary character that we dressed up as. So our buddies helped us to make a title page for our new book.

Painting to Music

We have talked about many different ways to create new things by using our imagination. We can express ourselves with music, dance, role play, actions and facial expressions. This week we took on painting how we feel. The children listened to 4 very different kinds of music and used wiggles, wriggles and squiggles to express themselves. It was so interesting to have them share how they felt and what they saw when their eyes were closed! We have very creative thinkers in KG!

We had certificates this week. A big congratulations to Panha and Wonglee on receiving a vey special award each.

Panha showed that he is a good COMMUNICATOR. Panha is new to our class this semester but he is always very involved in all of our class discussions and enjoys sharing his thoughts and ideas with us. Well done!!

Wonglee showed that he is OPEN MINDED. He has been using his imagination to create all sorts of different characters. He listens well to other people and shares great ideas too. Well done!!

100 Days Celebrations

We had a great day today celebrating the 100th day of school. It was really nice to have the chance to visit Ms Ishbel's and Ms Sara's classrooms and be treated to different activities that involved counting to 100. We dance and counted to 100 with exercise, read a book about Kindergarten counting to 100, made 100 day hats and counted out 100 treats!!

Also, Albert in our class brought in a tub full of lollipops. Our question for the day was to guess how many lollipops were in the tub. We had a big range of guesses. We counted the lollipops altogether and there were 49. Can you see who was the closest?

Finally, today in Maths we also got into pairs and made 100. We could make 100 any way we wanted. I asked the children how they thought they could make 100. Have a look at what they came up with! I was very proud of everyone today!!

100 Days of School

Tomorrow Thursday 29th we will be celebrating 100 Days Of School!
I can't quite believe that we have been at school for that many days!

In Kindergarten we will be joining with the other two classes and doing lots of fun activities. Of course we will be doing lots of counting to 100 so please help your children to practice counting at home tonight :-) We will be reading books about 100 days, making fun 100 day hats and counting lots of food to make 100.

Here are a few links to help with counting to 100 in many different ways.

Imagination adventures!

What a surprise I got this morning...... there were fairies, robots, princesses, storm troopers and even a teacher in a suit (and that wasn't me) in our classroom today!!

I was so excited to see all the children dressed up and the outstanding effort they all put into their imagination costumes! I could see that everyone had really tried hard to use their imagination and create a new character. This morning we had a hilarious time trying to guess who each other was :-) The children also got a picture of themselves all dressed up and set about creating the setting for where they live and what they do. So many awesome ideas!!

Check out our fabulous outfits!!

We also had a lot going on behind the scenes as spells were cast, tooth fairy checking teeth, magic, lightsaber and a very hungry dinolion. Many imagination adventures were shared and I can't wait till next week when the children will start to write a story about their character.

Can you guess what we all were?
Ask your child to help you, they were very good at guessing this morning!

Wrapping up the week

We tested out our communication skills this week by making puzzles in small groups. In order for the children to get the puzzles completed they need to communicate with each other and be open to other peoples ideas.

Patterns
Another activity where we had to communicate with each other and be open to each others ideas was during Maths. We were working on patterns and know that to make a pattern it has to be something that repeats itself again and again. Look at the great work we have been doing!

Buddies

Finally we spent some time on Friday with our buddies. They introduced us to an awesome app - Lego Movies. We had a great time making our own movies, setting the scene, adding music, background and sharing with each other.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Use your imagination......

Our classroom has been transformed!

We now enter our classroom through a tunnel filled of magical ideas, a thinking wall and a candy house. The children had a fantastic time thinking up all the ways we could design the classroom so that we had a space to be creative and open-minded. It has been an absolute pleasure to be able to listen to and observe all the amazing ideas of the creative genius's we have in the class!!

The children have been really busy this week at table top times in the morning creating things to use in our imagination area. We have some very creative thinkers in our class! We have a boat, a dinosaur and a racing car. It seems that any chance the children get they are working on various projects. I can't wait to see what they have planned for our imagination area next week.

As a class we also read two fantastic books.

"A box is just a box . . . unless it's not a box. From mountain to rocket ship, a small rabbit shows that a box will go as far as the imagination allows. When pretend feels so real that it actually becomes real—when the imagination takes over and inside a cardboard box, a child is transported to a world where anything is possible."

"With a stick in hand, the options are endless—whether it's conducting an orchestra, painting a masterpiece, or slaying a dragon—give a child a stick and let imagination take over and the magic begin."

So after reading these two books the children sat on the mat in a circle and I put a large spoon (soup ladle) in the middle of the circle. I asked them what it was.....well it certainly wasn't a spoon.

Take a look....

3-way-conferences

This week we have our 3 way conferences on Thursday 22 and Friday 23. School will finish at 12pm on both of these days. Just a gentle reminder that the 3 way conferences are for you and your child, so be sure to come with your child so that they can share their learning and future goals with you.

Looking forward to seeing you all over the next few days.

Starring the Healthy Food Princess and Mystery Readers

Our new Unit of Inquiry - "We use our imagination to extend our ability to think, create and express ourselves" is shaping up to be a hit with all the children! On Tuesday we had a mysterious visitor come to our class. The children got to ask 20 questions to try to figure out who this mysterious person was, where they live and what they do. The children really used their imaginations and had amazing ideas. They decided that this mysterious visitor was the "Healthy Food Princess" :-) and then each got the chance to draw and explain where they thought this princess lives and what she does.

Here are a few thoughts:

Renia - The Healthy Food Princess lives in a veggie patch. If kids don't want to eat their fruit and vegetables the Healthy Food Princess uses her magic wand to get them to try the fruit and vegetables.

Marcus – The Healthy Food Princess lives in space and travels to Earth by rocket ship.

Jeslyn – The Healthy Food Princess lives in a castle called the Healthy Food House. She uses her magic wand to control the stars to plants fruit and vegetables.

Panha – The Healthy Food Princess lives in the sky and plays with her magic wand and flies everywhere. She goes around picking all the good fruit and vegetables.

Next week you will all have the opportunity to see your child's fabulous ideas during the 3 way conferences.

We have had a brilliant week and been very busy painting, decorating, glittering and designing our imagination area. When you walk through the tunnel and use your imagination you can go anywhere!!

Mystery Readers

We were very lucky this week to have not only one but two mystery readers!

A very big THANK YOU to Susan (Renia's Grandmother) for coming in and being our mystery reader on Wednesday. We were treated to a story was about a little girl who dreamed really big! Great choice to go with our Unit of Inquiry at the moment on "Imagination"

Susan read - "Me...Jane" written by Patrick McDonnell. The book tells of Jane Goodall as a child and the journey that she took to be where she is today. Being noted as one of the world's most inspiring woman. Dr Jane Goodall dreamed big as a child about "a life living with and helping all animals," until one day she finds that her dream has come true. The children really enjoyed the book and had a LOT of                                                                  questions :-)

Our second mystery reader:

A very big THANK YOU to Anton's Grandmother who came to read to us on Thursday. Such a treat to have visiting family members come into the class and share a story.

We listened to a delightful fairytale - "Clumsy Hans" written by Hans Christian Anderson. The fairytale told of a princess who was looking for her husband that had the most to say for himself. Clumsy Hans brothers were off to try and win the princess and only laughed at Clumsy Hans when he said he would come along to try to win the princess too. Of course he won her and they were married.

This Semester we are looking for lots more people to come in and share a story with us. If you would like to be a mystery reader please follow the link to sign up.

Have a great weekend everyone!
