Hands On!

In Maths we have been learning about fractions: whole, half, quarter and sharing items equally. We have had gummy bears to help us share with our friends, shapes to cut in halves and quarters and learning which piece of pizza you would like for yourself! Plus the big question was how many friends do you want to share with? A lot of friends or just a few? After putting this to the test with our gummy bears the whole class came to the general consequences that they would rather share with just one friend. Why? Because then you get to have more too :-)

We also looked at capacity and had to figure out which cup, jug or glass was the fullest, emptiest and closest to hall full. The children enjoyed recognising, discussing and colouring the correct quantities. We also did a lot of estimating with capacity and weighing objects. We had a lot of fun with trying to balance the scales and predict what was going to weigh more or less.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Super Cycling Man!

Last Thursday we were so lucky to have a special guest come to visit us here in the elementary school.

The Super Cycling Man!

The visit from ‘Supercycling Man’ (aka Will Hodson an elementary teacher from London) was to share his story and inspire others. Will is riding around the world in order to:-
  • Raise £100,000 for Parkinson’s UK and several other charities
  • Cycle 100,000 kilometres across all 7 continents (including Antarctica) - a world first
  • Engage 100,000 children with the adventure through school visits and video calls

Please watch this video to learn more about this amazing adventure and the charities he is raising money for.

We had a fantastic introductory assembly with Will first thing in the morning. He shared with us his story about why he has chosen to embark on this amazing adventure and the message that he is trying to spread #WeCanAllBeHeroes no matter how big or small we are! Shae in our class even came dressed as a superhero ready to meet the 'SuperCycling Guy' and she wasn't disappointed!

One superhero to another - Shae got to sit on his bike!!

We then got to spend some time with him later on in the day to ask questions and find out more about this incredible adventure. We even got to draw our very own bikes and transform these bikes into anything we wanted it to be! Our imaginations were working hard!

We also helped our very good friend Clement celebrate his seventh birthday.  A very happy birthday to you Clement. I hope you had a great day and enjoyed your party as much as we all did! Thanks so much for the delicious cupcakes :-)

Sharing Our Learning!

We were very happy to share our learning with our Grade 4 buddies. We got to explain to them all the things that we had learnt about our chosen sea animal and show off our impressive research skills. Our accompanying art piece was a hit and it was fantastic to walk around and listen to the discussions between the buddies and how engaged they all were.

We were also very lucky on the last day of school before our holiday to learn more about Khmer New Year from our lovely teaching assistant - Ms Chark Rya. We had a great time discussing what people do to celebrate Khmer New Year and we played some very fun games!

It was fantastic to talk with the children today and hear about all of their adventures over the break. Some celebrated Khmer New Year while others travelled in Cambodia or to another country. It made for some brilliant writing this morning and excited friends sharing all that they had done!

Researching and Creating!

Wow we have had such a busy few weeks getting our ocean projects ready for the Student-Led-Conferences. The children have done such an amazing job with these and their supporting art piece. I am very proud of all their hard work and ability to research and share the information they have learned. I know they are all very excited to show you around the exhibition at our Student-Led Conferences.

I didn't want to spoil the surprise for you all so here is a slideshow of all the children hard at work :-)
