Recycling our way to 100 leaves!

After reading a Charlie and Lola story - 'We are extremely very good recyclers' the children came up with a fabulous idea to start recycling at school! The story tells of how Lola wants her real own tree to plant so she decides to go in a recycling contest. Lola needs to recycle 100 things and each time she recycles something she puts a leaf on a tree. Once the tree has 100 leaves you win a tree to plant.

The children decided that they also wanted their own real tree to plant. We talked about where we could put the tree and it was decided that we should plant it at our new school campus so each year we can see how much it grows. I am so proud of the children for having reflected on the story, come up the idea to recycle and to plant the tree at our new campus. We are very caring people her in KG!!

Check out our tree we already have 5 leaves!

If your child has anything at home that they want to bring into the class and earn more leaves they are more than welcome to. We really want to make it to 100 leaves ;-)

Maths

We have been having loads of fun learning about measurement. We listened to a great book called 'Chrysanthemum' and measured our names with connecting cubes. Lucky no one in the class had a name longer than Chrysanthemum! The children were even allowed to write on the cubes with a whiteboard marker, they really enjoyed that ;-)

We compared our names to see who had the most letters and who had the least. We found out that the most popular amount of letters in a name was 5 letters. Each child had to find 2 people that had a name longer than theirs and then 2 people that had a name shorter than theirs. Lastly each child had to find someone in the class that has exactly the same amount of letters as they had in their name.

We also did a very fun activity where we worked with a partner and traced around each others foot. We used all sorts of different things to measure how long our foot was and recorded the answers in our books.

Have a look at us working really hard.

We also helped Elena celebrate her sixth birthday today. A very happy birthday to you Elena and thanks for the delicious cake and drinks :-)
