Donavan Christopher

We had such a great time this morning meeting Mr Donavan.  He was so funny! We made songs, raps and tried to keep to the beat with him!  He shared with us some of the poems that he has written and we saw his two books....

Here are some pictures of us having lots of fun with Mr Donavan.

We are also in the process of setting up Genius Hour, in which we will welcome volunteers to come into the classroom twice a month and do unit related experiments with our children!  I will create a sign-up list for that as well and post it within a few weeks.

What's been happening in our class?

It may be a short week this week but still just as busy.  Check us out doing our sight words and phonics.  We have been concentrating really hard to write our letters correctly, starting from the top and following through with the letter shape.  Also working really hard on placing our letters in the correct place when writing in our fabulous new books!!

We have had lots of fun making words using magnetic letters.  We used A and T together for our ending and made lots of words by changing the first consonant.
Eg: AT
C + AT= CAT
R+AT= RAT
M+AT=MAT
S+AT=SAT

We make sure that we are always practicing our sight words by saying them, writing them, recognising them around the room , in books or by playing fun games that help us to remember them.

Maths

We have had LOADS of fun in Maths sorting and organising.  We have been sorting by colour, size, shape and object.

We practice our counting everyday.  We count to 100, skip count in twos, fives and tens.  We count forwards and backwards and do our daily calendar where we talk about the date, months, days of the week and how many days in school we have had.  We also have a daily problem which we pick - it can be counting, data, sorting or measuring.

Look at all the counting we have been doing

Unit of Inquiry

We worked in pairs and graphed information about ourselves.  We then compared the information and figured out all the things that we had in common. It was really interesting seeing the things that we had the same.

Then we shared them with everyone!

We also sorted out pictures of people being good friends and people not being good friends.  We talked about what the people were doing to make us think this.  It was really interesting listening to all the ideas that the children had. We wrote down all the things the children said.  Take a look!

Have a great long weekend everyone and see you on Tuesday!!

Gecko Wheel

Ms Ashley came to see us again in class to show us our Gecko Wheel poster. We talked about the different ways you can try to deal with problems.  We talked about the 9 choices we have on the Gecko Wheel and how we can use them. We also talked about the difference between a Minor (small) problem and a Major (big) problem.

There are 3 steps that we can take before we seek help from an adult for minor problems.
1) Choose a way to deal with our problem from one of the choices on Geckos Wheel
2) If that choice doesn't work try another
3) If we are still having a problem then we need to ask an adult for help

If it is a major problem then we need to find an adult right away.

Curriculum Evening

Thank you to the parents who came to our Curriculum Evening last Tuesday night.  We hope it was informative and gave you some insight into what the children are doing in the classroom.  If you were unable to make it please look under the Classroom Information tab to see the key slides from our power point.

Short Week

Dear Parent/Caregivers,

Just a gentle reminder that this week is a short week.  The children will finish school on Thursday 4th September at 12pm and Friday 5th September and Monday 8th September there is NO SCHOOL for children.  Teachers will be working hard on professional development and then enjoying a restful Monday.
