Our Week...

We started the week checking out our twitter account to see what had been happening over the long weekend. We had lots of messages to look at and some questions to answer from our friends in Luxembourg. If you want to check out our twitter account and follow us, please look down the right hand side of our blog and you will see our feed :-)

They wanted to know:

We talked about how we were going to answer these questions. The class did a great job listening to each others suggestions and deciding on how to answer each one. In groups they co-operated and collaborated to create a picture to represent the country/countries they come from and well, the lunchtime part was easy :-)

For the first question we had so many ideas. We like to do so many different things in class we just couldn't decide on just one. So we made a collage of all the things we like.

Number two was easy - Yes, we have break! 9:00 - 9:30am

The children decided that they wanted me to come to the cafeteria and take photos of them eating their lunch. It would take up too much room to tweet all the things we ate. I thought this was a great idea!

We had a bit of a brain storming session about how to answer number 4 - nationalities in our class. We have 10 different nationalities represented in our class and some of the children had connections with more than one nationality. As a whole class we came to the unanimous decision that we would get into our respective nationality groups and design a piece of paper in a way that expressed where we come from. They did an awesome job and I was delighted with the results.

Our class are thoroughly enjoying the world of twitter and tweeting to our friends. We are very curious about our new friends and want to know all about them and their school. We continue to ask them questions....

We have also invited our friends in Luxembourg to join us in collaborating across continents for 'Peace One Day' We will be sharing ideas and creating activities that we can do on September 21st to show our support for such a fantastic event. We can't wait to take action and document our days activities.

Buddies

We got to spend time with our Grade 4 buddies this week. We read stories and had a good chat to them about school and what they did over the long weekend. It was so nice to see the different interactions going on between the different grade levels.

Unit of Inquiry

We are coming to the end of our unit on "Interactions" and as a fun activity I read a book called:

As I read through the story there were a lot of different situations that arose between two very good friends that caused both negative and positive interactions between them. I stopped and talked to the children about how they would feel in each situation that arose and asked them to add an expression of that feeling onto blank heads. It was so interesting to get the different points of view and listen to the ways that the children saw the situations. Some felt happy while others said that they felt frustrated, angry or sad. It was a great way for them to share as a whole class and listen to a great story.

Morning board

Had to take a photo of how multicultural our class is!

Ms Dee helped us talk about Gecko's Choice and look at how we can deal with minor problems and big problems. After watching a short clip Hands to self we got into groups to share what we thought were good choices and how it would help to solve our conflicts.

Maths
We had a great calendar question this week - 'Who can jump the farthest in your class?'

We went outside to find out the answer.

We ended up having a jump off with these 5 - it was a draw :-)

Finally, we helped our friend Somphoas celebrate her seventh birthday. We hope you had a great day and thanks for the delicious cupcakes :-)

Have a great weekend everyone!
