A Great August!

We started the week with a load of fun in PE with Mr Ben. The children worked collaboratively to get the parachute to fly up in the air and pop all the 'popcorn'. Their were lots of laughs and excitement from everyone!

We did lots of learning on iPads this week - we made a photo collage on an app called Pic Collage. We will posted the final products next week, but here we are working hard on it. In groups we walked around the school taking photos of people interacting in different ways.

We went to the computer lab and tweeted our new friends in Luxembourg. They sent us a picture of themselves, it was great to see what our friends looked like.

They asked us some questions.

As a class we thought the best way to answer these questions was to get into 4 groups and take a question each. Then we took an iPad to take some photos to help show our friends the answers to these questions.

We tweeted back with this:

We also came up with some things that we wondered about our new friends. We're looking forward to the answers.

To explain the 'cool' thing upstairs...we saw a photo of their classroom and they have an amazing area that we guessed might be a playground but are not sure. We really want to know what it is!!

Mr Matt our IT coach also came to visit us and introduced the class to an awesome app called 'Explain Everything'. He showed us one of the many great things we can do - we now know how to cut out a picture and add it to the Explain Everything app and add text and movement. Ask your child about what they did. They all had an absolute laugh experimenting with this application.

Ms Dee the Learning Support teacher came to our class to talk to us about Gecko's choice. We had a puzzle that we had to put together and then discussed the times that we have had a problem and used one of the choices. It was very interesting for me to be able to listen in on the many conversations that the children were engaged in with each other. I learnt a lot!! Our class are very good at problem solving :-)

Last week we made our very own 'mini me' puppets and we have been expressing ourselves through role plays using Gecko's Choice. We talked a lot about positive and negative interactions and how we can change a negative interaction into a positive interaction using the Gecko's Choice.

I was so impressed by the way all the children worked together to not only design a role play but also be fantastic risk takers and preform them for the class.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. So awesome to see some of the former Tigers immersed in learning with you, Ms. Kelly! :)
I think it's great that you're interacting with a class in Luxembourg - the time difference is a challenge I bet...but I'm sure that's been discussed between you!
Keep rockin' it in Grade 1! :)
