Vincent

What is your favorite time of the day?
Art- Grade 1- Unit 4
How, why, and when do we work together to make art?
We found out that working together takes many social skills including compromise, cooperation, and good communication.  We worked together not just to create art, but also to investigate new art skills, brainstorm ideas for artworks, and evaluate our artworks.  Using the “Creative Cycle” helped us to record our process of art making each time we worked with a new group.

Unit 4 Music: Animal Songs
My song is about a bird.  In my song the bird is laying egg, eating, noisy and flying.

Personal Histories
Where We Are In Place And Time
Butterfly Garden -What changes did we see?
Sharing the Planet
I wrote a report on Hammer Shark .
I researched information and created a diorama to show the environment my sea animal lives in.
Unit 3: Music and Drama - Express Yourself
During our music time, explored mime and music and how they connect to emotions.

Here I am showing happiness with mime.

My group chose to create a piece of music using GarageBand.  Can you guess the emotion?

Art- Grade 1- Unit 3
How can I make connections between my emotions and my artistic creations?  During my 3rd unit in art, I explored ways of planning and creating abstract sculptures to express different emotional experiences from my life.  I used lines, shapes and colors that represented my feelings using a variety of art materials.  I also learned how to use mindfulness exercises to connect to my emotions using my mind and body.  Here are some examples of my art making throughout this unit of inquiry:

"This artwork is about Mr. Happy. In Mr. Happy's day, he is very happy when it is his birthday. He is medium happy when he plays with his friend. He is a bit happy when he opens the door. I showed the emotion by using straight line is happy, orange and green."

My Crazy Hair!

Shapes are everywhere!
Now we are extending our shapes investigation to 3D.

We have been exploring 2D Shapes. Look at the different shapes we found around our school.

Art- Grade 1- Unit 2 What inspires artists to create?  This is the question we asked in art this unit.  I chose a book that inspired me from the library.  Then I mapped out words, colors, lines, and shapes to describe my inspiration picture.  I used this plan to create an abstract glue and chalk artwork connected to my inspiration.  Here are some pictures of my art making process:

Music, Unit 2: Artistic Me

After choosing our picture for our inspiration, we thought about words that described our picture, words that said what the picture was doing and what was in the picture.  We then tried to give these words musical sounds.  Below is our composition that was inspired by our picture.  You can find the picture I chose in my music book.

COMMUNICATION
We found different ways that we can communicate to each other.

Vincent's Art Inspiration

Vincent is inspired by football.  He found a photo of a footballer in action and is beginning to draw the important parts of football: ball, shoe, and kick.  His friends have also helped him to think of ideas.

First Music class was a hit!!

Ms Leigh was so impressed by you being such a risk taker! Well done Vincent :-)

  1. This was our first student led conference and I think it was an absolutely fantastic way to get a better understanding on what Vincent and the students are up to at school. I am impressed by the work that Vincent presented to me. For instance the project work on the ocean theme was a real piece of art. I also think that the methodology for learning maths was great. Finally I was absolutely touched by the story that Vincent had pulled together and managed to read out loud for me, wow! I am already looking forward to the next conference!
